Below is an example of how Stepping Out would set out the Travel Taining process day to day:
"Phillip is a young person and has been diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder. He has recently enrolled at a college placement; however his independent travelling skills are extremely low, he also has no understanding of shared emotion with others and does not appear to understand other’s feelings. He demonstrates a low level of insight into the nature of typical social relationships and so he requires 1-1 support and guidance as per below:
College Placement: 3 Days a week ( 5 hour sessions) one to one support required whilst at college.
Monday:
8:00 am meet Phillip at tube station – travel to college placement 9:00 am. Staff member supervises and supports Phillip throughout session.
2:00 pm – Support Phillip to travel back to placement."
We take the time to assess what areas of travel the young person or adult needs support with, as well as the causes of their inability to travel alone. By taking these steps we are able to support the service user more effectively, and teach them travel awareness & safety in the process.
