Community Care’s top story today was, “How to make personalisation ‘core business’ in mental health” – an article focusing on how mental health services across the country are lagging behind in terms of Personalisation.

According to studies, Community Care reported that:

Compared to adult social care, mental health is lagging behind on personalisation – partly as a result of the continued dominance of the clinical model of mental health.

In Stockport, things are different. Four years on from the town piloting personal budgets, over 350 people now use them to buy services they feel will boost their mental health recovery, whether it’s a personal assistant, bike or photography equipment.

So, what exactly are Stepping Out doing to implement Personalisation into mental health care services?

Personalisation at Stepping Out

The Personalisation scheme was introduced in 2008. It gives clients the power to personally select care providers via their personal budgets. This replaces the method of the local authority or social service department choosing which care provider best suit the client.

Stepping Out endeavour to aid local authorities with assessing the needs of a client, thus allowing us to determine their individual budget. Additionally, we can help clients draw up their own care & support plans independently.

We can provide a range of services all of which are covered by your personal budget. To see what we can offer, visit our Domiciliary Care page. Additionally, Stepping Out can help you manage your personal budget via our payroll management service.
