Dementia should be made a top health priority on a par with cancer and lung disease, a leading expert has said, after it was described as the next global “time bomb”. Professor Peter Piot, former Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, compared dementia to the AIDs epidemic and said one person is diagnosed with the mental illness every seven seconds.

Should ‘Unfit’ Social Workers Be Fined?

No we’re no talking health wise. But a new legal review has proposed that any social worker who is ‘unfit for practise’ should be fine, or at the very least,  make them pay the costs of their conduct hearings.

While the commission says this could prove controversial, the current system of covering the costs through registration fees raises the question of “why good professionals should be expected to subsidise the miscreant”.
